It is the dream of every parent to see their child succeeding in school because we understand that having a good education is crucial for their future. Unfortunately, there are cases in which students are not performing as well as they could which causes a lot of distress in the family. There are many reasons why some students do not excel in school raging from having difficulty learning the material, bad teacher, poor study habits among others. For instance, having good organizational skills is important for students to be successful inside and in life in general. However, many parents find it challenging to get their children organized so they can complete their home and school assignments on time. Over time, the student learns to be a procrastinator and begins to do poorly in school. The parent becomes frustrated with the child, and the child loses even more confidence in his/her abilities. Thus, a simple problem with being organized has now become a vicious cycle of negativity.
In this regard, to achieve a proper level of organization, it is often helpful to create a Personalized Learning Plan [PLP] to serve as the framework for the learning process. Education is not only a matter of learning academic concepts, but the necessary life-skills to be successful in any endeavor.
The Personalized Learning Plan
In the first section of the PLP is dedicated to the student’s homework. For every lesson, I provide each student with a certain amount of homework to keep them engaged with the material.
- The second section is reserved for the worksheets and other supplemental subject matter.
- The third section mainly consists of weekly or biweekly quizzes to check for memorization and understanding.
- The fourth section contains the student’s notes that he or she has taken during class. In this respect, the student will learn proper note-taking techniques.
- The fifth section is exclusively dedicated to the student’s school curriculum. We will review and preview the school material to maintain good grades, and check for understanding.
The PLP is designed to help the student learn how to be properly organized by building good study habits. Along with the educational curriculum, I also help the student implement an effective organizational structure by using tools such as agendas, calendars, reading logs and more! An organized student is a successful student. It is therefore very important for students to learn this valuable skill.
